Happy Thanksgiving!

I am thankful for all that God has shared with me - most especially my family and friends. And as I give thanks today for all that I have now, I also give thanks for all of those people who have passed through my life and have shared themselves and their love while here on earth. They may be gone but their lessons, love and friendship remain within me and in everyone whom they touched in their lives. And it is our gift to pass it on to all whom we meet. Happy Thanksgiving!

Who Said it?

Do all the good you can,
By all the means you can,
In all the ways you can,
In all the places you can,
At all the times you can,
To all the people you can,
As long as ever you can.

Happy Leontyne Day!

Today is Leontyne Day! What? You ask what Leontyne Day is. Well, it is the anniversary of the day that "I" was adopted by Leontyne. Now, I know, some of you think that people adopt cats and dogs, but that could not be farther from the truth. If you have a dog or cat-or have ever had a dog or cat- you know what I mean.

Having always been a dog person, I started considering getting a dog a little over five years ago. I knew what I wanted and was seriously considering it. I had never had a cat, nor had my family growing up, and I really never even gave them a second thought. I didn't dislike cats-I simply didn't think about them at all. So, I decided to plan on getting a cat sometime in the future. One Sunday, September 12, 2004 to be exact, I decided to take my niece with me to Pet Smart and start looking around to see what paraphernalia I would need for a cat. I was not looking for a cat. We looked at litter boxes, beds, toys, etc. and then, since it was an adoption day, we looked at some of the kitties who just happened to be in the store that day. No harm in looking.  :)  We held and petted a couple. No harm in that. :)  They were cute but nothing clicked. Then my niece saw one that caught her eye. "This one's for you!" It was a little black and white tuxedo cat off by itself just looking around. I told my niece  that we would look some other time. Well, the "meltdown" began. How can an grown adult not be able to handle her niece's meltdown? Well, after much anxiety, calling her mom, and trying to settle my niece down, we decided to pick up just one more kitten to hold. This little kitten didn't even have a name, like all the others did. She had a number. We both think that it was the day she was to be put down.  At least, that is what the two of us choose to believe! ;)  Well, when we picked her up, she just cuddled up and it felt as if she sighed. The decision had been made. :)  By all three of us...my niece, myself, and most of all Leontyne. She came home with me, with a detour to my niece's house for "show and tell" to my sister. And I couldn't have been happier.  Paraphrasing the words from the Disney's Tarzan ...

You'll be in my heart...forever!

Thank you, Leontyne for choosing me!

Note to Sandy:  Thanks!  Now go and get me some food!

All good books are alike in that they are truer than if they had really happened and after you are finished reading one you will feel that all that happened to you and the afterwards it all belongs to you; the good and the bad, the ecstasy, the remorse, and sorrow, the people and places and how the weather was.

Who said it?

Carob is a brown powder made from the pulverized fruit of a Mediterranean evergreen. Some consider carob an adequate substitute for chocolate because it has some similar nutrients (calcium, phosphorus), and because it can, when combined with vegetable fat and sugar, be made to approximate the color and consistency of chocolate. Of course, the same arguments can as persuasively be made in favor of dirt. ;-)

Third Thursday Book Club 2009-2010

The new year of the Third Thursday Book Club begins in just over a week.  We have some new authors and some whom we have enjoyed in the past.  Our first book is The Shack by Wm. Paul Young.  That book certainly lends itself to a lot of questions and discussion.  I've read a couple that are on the schedule for the upcoming year and enjoyed them.  Others are waiting for the right moment.  And right now I am stuck in one of them and can't seem to "get hooked"- but I'm not saying which one.  But, I won't give up.  I love to read and have ever since I learned how.  A big thank you goes to Beth Nelson for starting this book club!  We have enjoyed so many books-many of them ones which we would never have chosen on our own.  Thanks again, Beth!

Read!  Read!  Read!  You will love it!

Reflection: Sunshine/Sonshine

Sunshine/Sonshine

The sun is always there.
But can we always see it?
We look for signs that tell us that the sun is still there.
We see the shadows across the walk…
The sun is still there.

We see a brilliant reflection in a lake…
The sun must be there.
We see squinting eyes and sunburned noses of children…
The sun still is there.

We see a beautiful rainbow across the sky…
Yes…the sun is there.
The sun sets and disappears…
Yet it’s strawberry–apricot glow remains…
Yes, the sun is still there.

We do not need to seek the sun…
It’s always there.
All we need to do is to look for the sun in the world among us.
We will see the sun in the beauty of nature
And in the faces of our friends.

The sun is always there.
We can depend on it.

The Son is always there.
We can depend on Him.

Children should be educated and instructed in the principles of freedom.

In the Beginning...

The time has come to make my presence known in the blog world. Oh yes, I have been reading the blogs of others, but now it is my turn. Many ideas are swirling around in this head and some of them will appear in this place. So sit back and watch this space... And, yes, this is my resident saint and poet who will be guiding my blogging as she does everything else I do.
